So you run your business from home now?!?
well here are a few quick steps to home-based business’ing…
#1- Lunches… take them!
Lunch with someone else if you can. Yes we are all social distancing right now. But it doesn’t mean that you and a close friend can’t pack a lunch and meet a a park.
Working from home can be outrageously isolating. Be sure even as you “distance” you are finding time to interact with other humans. Especially if home business’ing is going to be your new normal.
#2- Don’t Work!
a 2013 research study found that the prime ratio of work to rest is 52 mins on, 17 mins off. When you’re in an office, at the store, or seeing clients every day, it’s hard to find anything that even closely resembles “down time”.
Even surfing the web or chatting in the lunch room, isn’t real rest. It requires active engagement and the brain isn’t tricked into thinking you’re resting.
When you need a break, grab some laundry… do the dishes… vacuum the house… Find an activity your brain can do on autopilot. This doesn’t directly engage your mental and lets your mind wander.
#3- Set Boundaries
When we run our businesses from home we can often find ourselves essentially “on call”. We have made our “house” our “office” which makes us default to reacting to any and every request from our biz.
Avoid this at all costs! It’s so important that we establish hours that we will “operate” our businesses and times where we are completely off limits. Yes being a business owner requires more out of you than the normal cubicle job. However, we can’t allow this to simply overload our lives just because we are now more accessible.
Set boundaries that include on time and off times.
Using these few tips will help you to see greater success in this new environment you’ve found yourself in. You’ll notice you’re in a better mood, your work improves, AND you’re one step closer to the coveted work-life balance.
